When the curtains close
At the end of the show
I like to take a deep breath
And replay it in my head
I mean you saw the opening act
And the lead was so attractive
With a voice like an angel
Or what I imagine to be angelic
I could swear in the middle of the intermission
When she emerged, stage left, to wave to the audience
For a moment she met my gaze and appeared to smile
I haven't felt so moved by a play in quite a while
As the story of widower
And his pretty new neighbor
Climaxed, then drew to a close
Time seemed to move much slower
During the cast and crew meet and greet
I clutched a single rose, ready to lay it at her feet
Where I'd gladly take a knee for the rest of my life
And thank the theater for giving me a beautiful wife
